Functions of the Office:

  • Assists the Secretary in the supervision of five (5) sectoral councils as far as formulating policies, plans, programs, and strategies for S&T development and monitoring of accomplishments are concerned.
  • Assists the Secretary in the supervision of seven (7) R&D institutes as far as provision of S&T Services are concerned.
  • Assists the Secretary in the supervision of seven (7) service institutes, which provide necessary S&T services such as science education, science and technology information, technology application and promotion and disaster and hazard mitigation.
  • Takes charge of Department activities in the area of policy formulation and advocacy, planning, program/project development, monitoring and evaluation, resource generation, Official Development Assistance (ODA), S&T communication and promotion, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services.
  • Carry out tasks assigned by the Secretary of the Department as the need arises.

  • Setting-up of system of Technology Business Incubators (TBIs)
  • Setting-up new Philippine Science High School (PSHS) campuses
  • Institutionalization of the National Innovation Network
  • Advocacy for crucial S&T legislation which includes support to the Joint Congressional Commission to Review Science, Technology and Engineering (COMSTE) Competitiveness
  • National S&T Plan Updating
