DOST’s research council focuses on Laguna Lake fisher folks’ welfare

For over fifty years, the Laguna Lake has been the source of livelihood for Euphemio Bibat, 76, and a fisherman who raised his five children from the lake’s resources. Those long years of dedication to the lake, however, was not enough to inspire any of his offspring to take after his footsteps.

The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) invited Tal de Guzman (with laptop) of Risque Designs to discuss with women weavers who participated in a forum/workshop on the latest designs for fashion accessories that command high value in the international market. Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña (left) urges the Filipino Inventors Society to strengthen their organization by inviting more young scientists and inventors to join them and promote Filipino innovation in various fields to create more new products that will make life more convenient. Sec. de la Peña formally opened the National Inventors Week 2016 last November 14 at the DOST Compound in Bicutan, Taguig City.
