DOST to lead observance of National Time Consciousness Week in January 2016

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) once again leads the whole nation in observance of the second National Time Consciousness Week (NTCW) from January 4-8, 2016 as it enjoins all Filipinos to synchronize their watches with the official Philippine Standard Time (PhST) provided by DOST’s Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The initiative aims to create a culture of discipline among Filipinos by allowing a shift from the so-called “Filipino Time” attitude to one characterized by punctuality to show respect to the value of time and to other people.

Nueva Ecija library of advanced learning materials to include DOST’s STARBOOKS

A soon to be established library hub in San Jose West Central School in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija will have STARBOOKS among its array of features and facilities that will provide elementary and high school students in the city with different types of advanced reading and learning materials.
STARBOOKS, or Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks, was developed by the Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII). It is the first digital science library in the country, containing tons of information on science, mathematics, and technology in text, audio, and video formats. It does not require Internet connection in order to be accessed.

DOST launches int’l ICT business incubator cum start-up hub in Palawan

The Department of Science and Technology-MIMAROPA (DOST-MIMAROPA), Palawan State University (PSU), Palaweño ICT Association (PICTA), and Make a Difference (MAD) Industries of Malaysia opened the first ever international Information and Communications Technology (ICT) business incubator in the region last December 14, 2015 at the Palawan State University-Main Campus in Puerto Princesa City.

PARTNERSHIP FOR SMALL ENTREPRENEURS

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)–National Capital Region represented by (from left) Director Dr. Teresita C. Fortuna and DOST Assistant Secretary and Program Manager for Countryside Development Dr. Urduja A. Tejada, and the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE)–Go Negosyo represented by Executive Director Ramon Lopez and Victor Madlangbayan (3rd from left and extreme right) recently formalized their partnership for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the country with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. With the partnership, MSMEs will receive a more focused and well-rounded assistance from DOST-NCR and PCE which aims to help address poverty by promoting entrepreneurship. Meanwhile, DOST assists MSMEs via its Small Enterprise Upgrading Program or SETUP which provides funding, technology upgrade, and training.
