To be globally competitive, the Philippines needs a critical mass of young peopleinterested in science and math and the way to achieve this is by teaching those subjects using interactive materials.
Engr. Filemon T. Berba Jr., president of the Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology (PFST) emphasized this during the Department of Science and Technology- National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) Annual Scientific Conference and 83rd General Membership Assembly at the Philippine International Convention Center last March 16, 2016.

Members of the Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) - scientists, engineers, social scientists, and researchers of various academic fields - will convene on March 16, 2016 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City for NRCP’s Annual Scientific Conference and 83rd General Membership Assembly.
Around 700 members from all over the country are expected to attend and exchange ideas and experiences on the topic “Research Innovation for Inclusive Development.”

DOST-supported study predicts dengue mosquito abundance in PH schools

With the rise of dengue cases especially among children, a local study has pioneered in the development of a statistical model that readily predicts the threat of dengue outbreaks in public elementary and high schools in the Philippines.
Supported by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), the “School-based Mosquito Abundance Model (SMAM)” study offers a predictive model based on actual data estimating the mosquito density in schools without having to do active vector surveillance.

On August 14, 2014, Pagalanggang National High School in the municipality of Dinalupihan in Bataan acquired two units of STARBOOKS from the Department of Science and Technology’s Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII).
