DOST welcomes new FAO Country Representative in PH, discusses future collaborations

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), led by Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, welcomed Kati Tanninen, the new Country Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in the Philippines on 17 May 2021.
On the said occasion, the DOST and FAO discussed strengthening and expanding its collaborations on forecast-based financing, aquaculture science and technology, food and nutrition, and communication campaigns. The Department was also joined by the University of the Philippines Visayas College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.

DOST-PNRI and ROSTECHNADZOR conduct workshop on Nuclear Regulatory

The Joint Virtual Workshop on Strengthening the Legislative and Regulatory Frameworks between the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PNRI) and the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service (Rostechnadzor) of the Russian Federation was conducted from 13-14 May 2021.
The workshop provided a platform for both sides to discuss the overview of their respective legal and regulatory frameworks. The event also provided opportunity for both institutions to share best practices in nuclear safety regulations and regulatory experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jea Natural Coffee: Brewing success thru science and technology

The willingness to comply and the flexibility to accept change are the winning gauges of Jea Natural Coffee.
A homegrown enterprise from Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental, Jea Natural Coffee has been producing roasted ground corn beverages for more than five years now. It has been manufacturing its product using improvised roasting and grinding machines.
However, in 2020, it was as if a steaming, brewed cup of corn beverage was poured unto them when news came in that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tagged their product as "Unregistered" at the FDA website. Hence, an advisory to the public prohibiting purchase was published.
