Unrelenting in its mission to fulfill the S&T initiatives of 4Ks (Kalusugan, Kaayusan, Kabuhayan, Kinabukasan) to minimize the chance of transmission of the COVID-19 virus, the Industrial Technology Development Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-ITDI) provided assistance to the Ospital ng Maynila with basic personal protective equipment (PPE) such as 50 pieces 3D-printed face shields and also 50 pieces ear loop holders or ear relief bands that help minimize possible injuries and bruising among frontliners due to extended use of face masks. Apart from this, three (3) boxes (with total of 900 pouches) of Ready-To-Eat (RTE) Chicken Arroz Caldo were also donated to the hospital’s medical workers. The shelf-stable Arroz Caldo packed by Kai Anya Foods are easily consumed straight from the pouches without need for beverage or utensils.
DOST XI launches Pandemic Manual

The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) officially launched on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 the manual entitled “Pandemic Manual: A Procedures Manual on Prevention, Mitigation and Building Resilience to Epidemics and Pandemics.”
The Pandemic Manual contains procedures in the implementation of various technologies, innovations, and systems developed to provide a secured working environment in the event of health outbreaks. This, which shall serve as guidelines for both DOST XI personnel and its customers, will ensure the continuous delivery of quality products and services despite past, ongoing or anticipated epidemics and pandemics.
DOST-MIMAROPA, DOST-FNRI join hands in developing food technologies for MSMEs

The Department of Science and Technology-MIMAROPA (DOST-MIMAROPA) in collaboration with the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) organized a virtual technology forum last 10 July 2020 to introduce food technologies developed by latter aimed at helping micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the MIMAROPA Region level up.
With COVID-19 putting more people at risk through disrupted health and nutrition services, job displacement, and income losses, DOST-MIMAROPA and DOST-FNRI joined hands and reiterated their desire to help MSMEs with valuable technologies in terms of improving access to healthy food and economic opportunities.

2020 Nat’l Informatics Olympiad goes online

After bagging a bronze medal in last year’s International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), the organizers behind the country’s participation in the prestigious plum are wasting no time—pandemic and all—to put together the best team to challenge the world in programming.
The IOI is a competitive programming competition for secondary school students from more than 80 countries a year. It involves a series of individual contests on computer programming, hence, each participant is awarded a medal depending on his/her final score.
