The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office X (DOST-X) once again commenced its series of Food Safety Awareness webinars for food handlers in Region 10.
Eight businesses in the Bukidnon food sector attended last 13 April, 18 home-based food businesses in Misamis Occidental last 14 April, and 21 food delivery businesses in Camiguin last 19 April.

DOST-VI lab determines shelf life of food products

Ensuring the welfare concerns and consumer protection on water and food safety and quality, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Western Visayas or DOST Region VI (DOST-VI) included the newly established Shelf Life Testing Services in the existing laboratory services of its Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL). With this, the DOST-VI RSTL also houses the Microbiological Testing Laboratory (MTL), Chemical Testing Laboratory (CTL), and Metrology Laboratory (MTL).
The RSTL plays a vital role in providing laboratory testing and calibration services to industries, academe, local government units, private institutions and individuals in Western Visayas and at the same time it offers assistance to students in terms of consultancy services and the use of facilities.

Pinoy innovator develops wound patch for diabetics made from coconut

A Filipino registered nurse by the name of Denver Chicano, with a big heart and a creative mind, came up with the idea of developing a wound patch specifically for diabetic patients.
His personal experience as a nurse at the Burn Unit of the Philippine General Hospital motivated him to develop such products that will helps patients with wounds to heal faster and better. Because of the result of narrowed blood vessels, diabetic wound healing is impaired because there is less oxygen that reach the wound that results in slow healing.

DOST PCIEERD, Elsevier train 4,000 researchers on research publishing

Aiming to upskill science researchers on publishing their work, the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development and global scientific publication aggregator Elsevier trained 4,000 scientists and engineers from 26 countries on using the scientific search engine.
