The Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) gave DOST scholars from UP Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University, and Rizal Technological University a free ride to the stars and the heavens via a forum dubbed “TEC TALK: Space Science” at the UP Diliman-National Institute of Physics (UPD-NIP) last July 27, 2016. TEC (Technology, Education, Culture) TALK is one of the activities in the ongoing National Science and Technology Week (NSTW). Insert photo shows the resource persons: (from left) Dr. Ian Vega, gravity group head of UPD-NIP’s theoretical physics group; Dr. Rogel Mari Sese of DOST’s Philippine Space Science Education Program; Dr. Jose Perico Esguerra, professor and theoretical physics group coordinator of UPD-NIP; and DOST Balik Scientist Dr. Apollo Arquiza of Cornell University. Arquiza has worked at the International Space Station, studying foods for astronauts. The speakers shared their amazing career journeys and inspiring works in space science. They also mesmerized the students with interesting discussions of black holes, alternative theories of gravity, Big Bang Theory, motion of stars, space cooking, and space education, among others. The forum aimed to encourage the youth to take up careers in the field and open their eyes to the significance of space science in national and global progress.
