QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The Advanced Science and Technology Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-ASTI) officially launches on August 5, 2025, the 2nd Advanced Science, Technology, and Innovation Convention (ASTICON), at the Novotel Manila Araneta City in Quezon City. This year’s convention carries the theme “Preparing Tomorrow, Today,” highlighting DOST-ASTI’s mission to develop technologies that shape a future-ready Philippines.

Experts from the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA), and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) reiterated the vital role of research and development (R&D) in improving the country’s disaster risk reduction (DRR) efforts and climate change adaptation and the need for more multi-sectoral collaboration.
During the 8th National Research and Development Conference (NRDC) held on July 23-24, 2025, key stakeholders, policymakers and experts gathered to discuss the critical role of R&D in driving national progress, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and fostering local and international collaboration.
DOST boasts sustainability with AI and circular economy in Caraga Region

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. shared his research and development focus in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and the Circular Economy aimed at generating more jobs and livelihood opportunities in the Caraga Region.
This was revealed during the opening of the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) celebration in Robinson’s Place in Butuan City on July 30, 2025, hosted by the DOST-Caraga Regional Office. Solidum emphasized DOST’s commitment to crafting enabling policies and ensuring sustainable funding support in these green initiatives.

DOST unveils early detection kits for ASF

In a bid to reinforce its commitment to combat the threat of African Swine Fever (ASF) and secure the future of the country’s swine industry, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), DOST-Industrial Technology and Development Institute (DOST-ITDI), DOST-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), and BioAssets Corporation unveiled three locally developed technologies for early detection, rapid response, and long-term prevention of African Swine Fever (ASF), a virus that devastated the Philippine swine sector since 2019.
