One local rice mill and two producers’ associations recently received financial assistance from the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office I (DOST-I) to help them improve their productivity and operations through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program or SETUP, one of the flagship programs of the department.

Filipino students are ready in terms of computer or internet self-efficacy - that is their ability to demonstrate proper computer and internet skills. However, they are not ready in terms of learner control.
This is based on the results of the study on “Assessment of Filipino Higher Education Students’ Readiness for e-Learning During a Pandemic: A Rasch Technique Application,” from a team of researchers from the Institute of Statistics- University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

Science tools to end disaster vulnerability in the mountain barangays of Bukidnon

Upper Pulangi District in Bukidnon is home to 16,000 inhabitants, predominantly composed of the Umayamnons and Higaunons who remain vulnerable to natural hazards, basically because of its geographical location.
In 2012, Typhoon Pablo damaged vast agricultural land, ravaged houses, and damaged properties amounting to roughly P 20M in the barangays within Upper Pulangi. The typhoon also left numerous people injured. To complicate the situation, lack of communication system caused heavy delays in the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office rescue operations. Road accidents, landslides, and other hydrometeorological hazards occur regularly in the area leaving the community at risk, including its most vulnerable sectors.
