Shoo mosquitoes! Yes, your babies will now be spared from mosquito bites with the innovative technology of mosquito-repellant baby clothes developed by the Philippine Textile Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology. This is one of the development initiatives of the textile institute under the Smart Textiles program to address the need to provide products that will directly benefit the people. The technology is showcased in the Science, Technology and Innovation @ Home cluster at the National Science and Technology Week held on July 17-21, 2018 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. Other textile-related technologies shown during the exhibits were the use of natural dyes, tropic fabrics, and the therapeutic hand loom for physically challenged individuals and senior citizens.
“Waste = Resources to Inclusive Circular Economy”

Senator Cynthia A. Villar (right) talked on zero-waste production and sustainable consumption and production patterns at the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) forum called “Waste = Resources to Inclusive Circular Economy.” Held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on 19-20 July 2018, two-day event highlights the importance of shifting from a linear economy (produce, use, decompose) towards a circular economy. The latter is an alternative model that maximizes waste products to be used as resources for product generation. Invited speakers from the textile, business, and environment sectors shared their own efforts and best practices.

Guests can now grab some yummy snacks and refreshing drinks at the drop of some coins or paper bills while visiting the exhibits at the 2018 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW). Held on July 17-21, 2018 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, the NSTW features among others the Innovation Lounge of the OneSTore Hub which houses this vendo. The vendo dispenses products DOST-assisted enterprises through the flagship program called Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program or SETUP. Products available include Mahi-Mahi chips, chili sauce and other condiments, Bugnay wine and Civet coffee from Kalinga, crunchy peanut butter, local chocolate bars from GenSan, Chicharabao chicharon and cornik snacks from the Cagayan and Ilocos regions, laing from Bico, specialty sardines, guyabano tea, and others. Meanwhile, all products on display at the shelves at the Marketplace section are also available online through the DOST shopping portal called OneSTore.ph.
