Innovation is at the heart of the many development programs of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) from agriculture to industry to health. DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña said that the DOST is now putting more resources into research and development by partnering with different stakeholders like state colleges and universities to serve as innovation hubs in the regions. MUNOZ, Nueva Ecija – Following the successful celebration of the 2017 National Science and Technology Week of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) at the World Trade Center in Pasay City last July 11-15, 2017, the DOST-Region III now celebrates the Regional S&T Week (RSTW) at the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Munoz, Nueva Ecija. This year’s activity is anchored on the theme “Science for the People”.

The 2017 National Science and Technology Week featured the first digital library-in-a-box called Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks or popularly known as STARBOOKS at the World Trade Center in Pasay City last week. STARBOOKS is one of the knowledge products of the Science and Technology Information Institute (STII) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) that provides access to hundreds of thousands of science and technology information. STARBOOKS is suitable to public schools nationwide, especially those without internet connection. Because of this novel product, DOST-STII was awarded in June 29, 2015 with the American Library Association (ALA) Presidential Citation for Innovative International Library Projects during the International Librarians Reception held at the San Francisco Public Library in San Francisco, California, USA.
