While many Filipinos still associate nuclear energy with danger due to historical incidents like Chernobyl or Fukushima and the unfinished Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, which symbolizes political and safety concerns, many STEM students are still showing interest in nuclear science, especially in relation to sustainable energy, health physics, and nuclear engineering.
DOST to hold 3rd international smart city expo in Isabela

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), in partnership with the local government unit of Cauayan City Isabela (ISU) is set to hold the 3rd International Smart City Exposition and Networking Engagement (iSCENE) on May 22-24, 2025, at the Isabela Convention Center, Cauayan City.
Cauayan City, Isabela is the first smart city in the Philippines, designated by the DOST in 2025. The city has implemented various digital solutions to improve network and services such as the installment of free WiFi in its 65 barangays.

DOST assisted coop signs agreement on iron-fortified rice

A DOST assisted cooperative signed a licensing agreement for the adoption and production of iron-fortified rice (IFR) in the province of Pangasinan.
This was held during the 2025 North Luzon Innovation and Technology Transfer Summit recently at the Newtown Plaza Hotel, Baguio City.
DOST Region 1 with Bantog Samahang Nayon Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BSNMPC) and DOST-FNRI during the signing of the technology licensing agreement for iron-fortified rice.
