The 2016 national elections are coming and the clamor for making the “right” choices is steadily rising. In the Philippines, taking a swing at politicians for not delivering on promises once elected is just as common as pinning the blame on the nearest voter for not making the expected “wise” vote.
Pointing the finger at the urban and rural poor for making the “uneducated vote” has become a common malpractice among the average Filipino over the years. In fact, just last year, discussions about not allowing non-tax payers to vote flared up after a recommendation from a well-known political figure was reinterpreted and misquoted over and over through different social media sites.
DOST’s Free Wi-Fi project to boost number of income earners from online jobs

By the end of 2015, an estimated 1.5 million Filipinos had found work online through the Internet, earning dollars without leaving the country.
Among the jobs Filipinos excel in are writing, graphic and web design, desktop publishing, audio and video editing, software development and virtual assistants.

DOST’s Science Nation Tour features technology-enhanced enterprises

The Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST)Science Nation Tour (SNT) in Western Visayas, dubbed “AngSci-Ya, Sci-Yasa West V”, is a three-day event from February 22-24, 2016 that features different activities to make people :feel” science and technology in their lives.
One featured activity is the Tek-TiendaMicro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Product Fair formally opened by no less than DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo, a staunch supporter of Filipino entrepreneurs. The enterprises received assistance from the DOST through DOST Region VI headed by Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga. This event is being held at the SM City Iloilo activity center and is open to the public for free while parallel activities are held at the Diversion 21 Hotel, Eon Centennial Hotel for the Health Research Forum, Iloilo Esplanade and Philippine Science High School Western Visayas in Jaro, Iloilo City.

Doppler Radar in Iloilo

DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo (4th from left) unveils the marker on the new PAGASA Iloilo Weather Station where the Doppler Radar is installed. Doppler radar isa sophisticated weather equipment that would gather data on amount of rainfall in specific areas in a certain period of time and detect rain clouds important in cloud seeding.
