DOST elected as Vice Chair for Asia Pacific at the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development for its twenty-seventh session

19 April 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland – Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Leah J. Buendia, representing the Philippines, was elected as Vice Chair for the Asia Pacific Group of the United Nations (UN) Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) during its twenty-seventh session held on April 15-19, 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The CSTD, an intergovernmental forum, serves as the United Nations’ focal organization for science, technology, and innovation (STI) for development. It critically analyzes and discusses pressing issues in STI and its potential contributions to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Commission is comprised of five (5) regional groups with 43 Member States, including nine (9) Member States under the Asia Pacific Group.
From Angeles to Los Angeles: DOST supports learners from Angeles City Science High School competing at the 2024 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in LA this May

A group of S&T learners from Angeles City, supported by the DOST Central Luzon Grants-In-Aid (GIA), is gearing up to participate in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair 2024 (ISEF), which is scheduled to take place from May 11 to 17 in Los Angeles, California, United States of America.
According to the DOST-Provincial Science and Technology Office in Pampanga, the learners from Angeles City Science High School successfully participated in the Department of Education’s (DepEd) 2024 National Science & Technology Fair (NSTF) held from April 1 to 5 at Sequoia Hotel in Parañaque City. Their GIA-funded project, titled "In Vitro Study of Bioceramics from Bamboo Leaf Ash and Green Mussel Shells with Silver (Ag) Coating and 3D-Printing Applications for Bone Regeneration," received recognition and awards at the event, earning them a spot in ISEF 2024.

DOST turns over P17M Smart City project to Baguio City

Baguio, City- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) officially handed over a P17 million smart city project to Baguio City to help address environmental concerns tourist spots encounter on April 15, 2024.
In a ceremony, DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr., DOST Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) Executive Director Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, and Monitoring of Indicators for Efficient Redevelopment and Value Assessment (MINERVA) project leader Academician Christopher Monterola handed over the outputs of the project to Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong.
Project MINERVA aims to help the Baguio City Local Government’s smart city and urban rehabilitation projects by utilizing data science and artificial intelligence.
