The Iloilo PAGASA Complex now houses the Doppler Radar and Synoptic Station that will provide a wider coverage for monitoring weather disturbances like typhoons in the Visayas region to as far as Masbate in the north and Surigao and Davao in the south. DOST turns over disaster management book to Western Visayas Regional Development Council

Timely and accurate information on natural hazards are essential in mitigating disasters and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the Science and Technology Information Institute (STII), espouses the same dictum and produced a disaster management guide or manual called the Reference for Emergency and Disaster, more popularly known as the RED Book.
Designed to aid the local government units and disaster risk reduction managers in implementing their disaster management plans, the DOST turned over to the Regional Development Council of Western Visayas copies of the RED Book during the Special Forum on Science and Technology held on February 23, 2016 at the NEDA VI Building, Fort San Pedro, Iloilo City.

DOST fetes S&T champs in Western Visayas

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the DOST Region VI, gives honor and recognition to different stakeholders and individuals who have shown their full support for prioritizing the science and technology (S&T) agenda. The recognition was done during The Sci-Night: Stakeholders’ Night, one of the main events of the three-day event dubbed Science Nation Tour (SNT) Western Visayas: “AngSci-Ya, Sci-Yasa West V!” held on February 22-24, 2015 at the SM City Iloilo and the Diversion 21 Hotel.
The awarding, held at the Anne Margaret Hall of the Diversion 21 Hotel, recognized S&T advocates who showed excellence in promoting the use of science, technology and innovation by developing products of unique features and world class quality.

Department of Science and Technology Secretary Mario G. Montejoawards a Certificate of Ownership to Rudy M. Caoagdan, owner of RC Agribusiness Center based in North Cotabato. The certificate validates that Caoagdan, along with other awardees, have fully paid his loan granted through DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP). The program assists micro, small, and medium enterprises via a package of assistance, including loans that come in the form of technology upgrading. Other SETUP clients issued certificates of ownership areKablon Farms in Tupi, South Cotabato; Carpenter Hill Gardens in Koronadal, South Cotabato;Tecuala Mini-Sawmill and Woodworks in Old Kidapawan, North Cotabato;Rafol’s Machine Shop and Engineering Services in General Santos City; and NCV Workshop in North Cotabato. The awarding is part of the Science Nation Tour, a national roadshowthat aims tomake communities “feel” science through various activities relevant to different sectors of the society. The roadshow runs Feb. 16-18 and will feature launches of various projects, visits, fora, technology demonstration, inventors’ contest, exhibits, and others.With Sec.
