DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo signs the renewal of commitment by agency members of the National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines (NCBP) during its 25th year anniversary held October 27, 2015 at Chardonnay by Astoria, Pasig City. DOST heads NCBP, the lead authority in developing policy guidelines and other significant protocols that promote and ensure biosafety in the country including safe and responsible use of genetically modified organisms or GMOs. DOST to host Third Philippine Nuclear Congress

Key representatives from the agricultural, industrial, medical, government and academic sectors will gather together for the Third Philippine Nuclear Congress (PNC) from December 7 to 9, 2015 at the Diamond Hotel in Manila, Philippines to assess the state of nuclear science and technology and its contributions to national development. The third PNC will focus on the theme Meeting Challenges through Nuclear Science and Technology for Sustainable Growth.
Organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) and other partner agencies, the PNC is a multi-sectoral forum for reviewing the global, regional and national scenarios in nuclear science applications for technological development and inclusive growth. It also aims to expand the participation of the different sectors to establish stronger linkages with the collaborating institutions and individuals.
DOST eyes rice sufficiency via remote sensing technologies

A cutting edge technology called remote sensing will help boost the country’s rice production, according to a scientist. Remote sensing uses satellite imagery and ground data processing to generate data and information on agricultural conditions.
During the recent 2015 Asian Conference on Remote Sensing, Dr. Enrico Paringit, explained that through the said technology, experts can make an inventory of the agricultural resources and immediately discover any irregularities in the crops before these spread. Paringit is the program leader of the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Disaster Risks Exposure Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM).

DOST, Chamber of Commerce ink partnership for more competitive Cordillera enterprises

Baguio City- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Camp John Hay in Baguio City to strengthen the capability of local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector in the region.
Under the said MOU, DOST and PCCI in the Cordilleras will sustain and expand their partnership towards helping the MSMEs in the region to have access to different technological innovations to improve their production efficiency and competitiveness. The MOU includes providing mentoring and related assistance to MSME beneficiaries of DOST-CAR to help them become world class business enterprises.
