DOST-UP’s plane to fly in ARMM to chart hazard map

The Department of Science and Technology will fly a plane over the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao in August to survey the region for hazard preparedness. The activity is part of DOST’s project with the University of the Philippines called DREAM or Disaster Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation, a component of the Project NOAH or Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards.

Officials and disaster risk reduction managers (DRRM) from earthquake and typhoon-ravaged Bohol and Cebu joined their counterparts from Negros Oriental and Siquijor for the Central Visayas leg of the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) ongoing national disaster information campaign and gave the roadshow its biggest participant turnout to date.

DOST calls for more disaster response leaders in Zamboanga Peninsula

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Assistant Secretary Raymund E. Liboro, concurrent director of DOST’s Science and Technology Information Institute, called for more disaster response leaders in the Philippines amidst the increasing frequency of natural calamities.
Asec. Liboro said that although mayors and organizations committed to disaster response stand at the frontline of disaster management, this does not exempt any other member of society from becoming a responsible disaster leader. He explained that mayors need responsible barangay chairmen and other dedicated people working under their stewardship in order to effectively carry out their tasks when disasters occur.
