The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) and the Central Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (CVAARRDEC) are exploring various prospects and livelihood opportunities for a sustainable blue economy in the Philippines.
As part of the 2023 National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) in Iloilo City, experts and researchers shared various studies on Thursday that could unleash the potential of the blue economy in different areas of the country, especially in the countryside.

On November 22, 2023, history was made as the country's largest annual Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) celebration opened at the Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City.
Spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), this marks the first time the NSTW has been held outside Metro Manila.
"Bringing the NSTW to Iloilo City this year indicates how the DOST values and prioritizes a whole-of-society approach by aligning our products and services to foster inclusive development, create more livelihood and career opportunities for Filipinos, especially in rural areas, and, most importantly, promote the blue economy," Sec. Solidum said.

The National Museum of Western Visayas will feature the Hinabul: Natural Fiber and Textile Exhibits, including the Regional Yarn Production and Innovation of the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute.
The National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) will take center stage in Iloilo City from November 22-26, 2023. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) aims to bring several of the latest innovative products and services closer to local government units and industries, assisting their respective operations and product development.
In a broadcast statement, DOST VI Regional Director Rowen R. Gelonga shared that various scientific and technological (S&T) institutions, research and development (R&D) organizations, regional offices, and DOST's partners will showcase new innovations and technologies related to the blue economy, maritime transport, food processing, sustainable technologies, health, and education in Iloilo City and across Western Visayas.
