LINGAYEN, PANGASINAN -- Two (2) bakeries in Pangasinan adopted the Enhanced Nutribun or E-Nutribun of squash and carrot variant, developed by the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI). 

The new adaptors are Ferdinand N. Jamias of Bantog Samahang Nayon Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Asingan and Luzviminda Cabreros of Regino’s Bakeshop in Bautista, Pangasinan. DOST Provincial Science and Technology Office in Pangasinan (PSTO-Pangasinan) facilitated the signing of Technology Licensing Agreement (TLA) with DOST-FNRI on January 14 and February 6, 2023.

The Department of Science and Technology Region I (DOST-I) through the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) - Pangasinan Field Office awarded 42 liters of Carrageenan Plant Growth Promoter (PGP) to the Sampaguita Farmers Association at Barangay Baritao, Manaoag, Pangasinan on February 14, 2023. 
 
The association is the primary source of sampaguita flowers used to make sampaguita garland. These are traded in Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Baguio City.

The Department of Science and Technology Region 1 (DOST-I), through the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) - Pangasinan Field Office, conducted Awareness Seminar on Food Safety (FS) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) to two (2) salt manufacturers at Barangay Amansabina, Mangaldan, Pangasinan on 9 February 2023. 

The training aimed to give awareness on basic food hygiene and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), to identify different food hazards and causes of food contamination, and to assess the sanitary condition and practices of each firm in conformity with GMP, basic food hygiene, and food safety requirements. 

Nine (9) participants from B.S. Cuison Enterprises and Libring Salt Refinery attended the training.

Dr. Teresita A. Tabaog, Officer-in-Charge, Office of the Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology Region 1 (DOST-I) visited the agency’s projects and provincial offices in Pangasinan on 9 February 2023 to fully assess the needs on the ground and provide better support to implement programs better. 

The visit in Pangasinan by OIC-RD Tabaog led to the meeting with former DOST-I Regional Director Armando Q. Ganal and a visit to the PSTO-Pangasinan field office located at PSU Urdaneta. Jennifer Fernandez, Science Research Specialist II exhibited some of the products of assisted-SETUP firms in Districts 4, 5, and 6 and shortly discussed how the program helped improve their products, production processes, and businesses.
