DOST honors 3 outstanding national government agencies marking its 64th anniversary

For more than six decades, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) was not alone in promoting science, technology, and innovation as the vehicle for economic development and inclusive growth. Hand in hand with the DOST were other national government agencies (NGAs) that contributed to the dispersal of scientific knowledge and research and development initiatives that created positive impact in various sectors of society.
In commemorating the 64th anniversary of the DOST this year, the department saw it fit to honor select NGAs who have contributed substantially in creating value for the people through their support of the various projects and programs of the DOST.

DOST-SEI hails qualifiers to the 2022 undergrad S&T scholarships

A total of 10,487 students are set to enter college for academic year 2022-2023 as new science scholars of the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) as they release the official list of names of the scholarship qualifiers.
For two consecutive years, DOST-SEI did not conduct the national scholarship qualifying examination due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To identify the qualifiers, the Institute employed data analytics and proxy indicators in place of the exam. Documentary requirements were collected through the E-Scholarship Application System including the students’ grades in Grades 9-11.
Of this year’s batch of qualifiers, 5,567 qualified under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program—scholarships for students with high aptitude for science coming from economically disadvantaged families; while 4,920 qualified under the Merit Scholarship Program.

DOST info institute places 3rd in the DOST GAD Mainstreaming Awards

The Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) bagged the third place for the Agency Category of the Gender Mainstreaming Awards of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The award was given and received by no less than DOST-STII Director Richard P. Burgos during the DOST’s 64th Anniversary: Gabi ng Parangal at Pasasalamat held on June 13, 2022 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City.
The DOST GAD Mainstreaming Awards is an incentive program of the department which aims to recognize deserving DOST regional offices, attached agencies, and Philippine Science High School Campuses for their outstanding performance in gender mainstreaming and effective implementation of gender responsive science and technology programs.

PAGASA observes Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week, underscores relevance of Project #MAGHANDA in disaster preparedness

With an average of 20 typhoons that hit the country every year, the DOST-PAGASA vigorously observes the Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week (TFAW) every 3rd week of June to give emphasis on the importance of early warning systems and early action in strengthening disaster action and preparedness to ensure the safety of communities during calamities.
“Mahalaga na prepared tayo at alam natin kung ano yung magiging action kapag inilabas na ng PAGASA yung mga early warning systems (It is important to prepare and know what to do once PAGASA releases the early warning systems),” emphasized Dr. Esperanza O. Cayanan, DOST-PAGASA’s Deputy Administrator for Research and Development. She also reminded the public to help clean the sewage systems to avoid clogging of canals that cause floods during heavy rains and typhoons, underscoring the need for cooperation by all citizens.
