6-day DOST-Newton Agham Researchers Link Workshop in One Health Omics concludes

The University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPMin), in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK, has successfully completed the One Health Omics Project, a week-long free online bioinformatics workshop held from October 11-16, 2021.
Out of 124 applicants, only 40 were shortlisted to participate in the workshop composed of faculty members, clinicians, and researchers from different regions in Mindanao.

PH indigenous languages preservation through online community dictionary

Targeting to empower native languages through the help of the new technology, a team of computer scientists and linguists from the University of the Philippines - Diliman (UPD) developed a dictionary-making tool that can be used as an online dictionary platform for Philippine indigenous languages.
Breaking the language barrier thru project Marayum, it also aims to preserve and save endangered Filipino languages. It allows users to enjoy different local languages that could support their connection towards the community. Furthermore, through this initiative, not only during ‘Buwan ng Wika’, Filipinos can appreciate the different local languages outside the one-month long celebration.

The quality of surface water in rivers, lakes, and oceans may be easy to see. But for the waters that are way deep in the ground under our feet, not very much.
To monitor the dynamics of groundwater in Pampanga and Iloilo City, a website called Philippine Groundwater Outlook (PhiGO) was developed and launched by researchers from the Ateneo de Manila University and the British Geographical Survey (BGS).
FRESH FARMS: Ensuring food safety from contaminants

Safe and healthy food is a basic human need and right. It is needed to sustain overall health and economic development in light of the recent pandemic.
With this, a research program called FRESH FARMS or Food Risk and Safety Analysis in Agricultural Farms towards Improvement of Control Strategies for Food Safety is currently implemented to ensure that the food from farms is free from any contaminations.
This is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Saganang Pagkain Para sa Lahat or SAPAT Program of the DOST-National Research Council of the Philippines’ National Integrated Basic Research Agenda.
