DOST to present PH road to recovery in 6th NRDC

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will hold the 6th National Research and Development Conference (NRDC) on November 10 and 17, 2021. The virtual event entitled “Pananaliksik at Pagpapaunlad: Daan Tungo sa Pagbangon (Road to Recovery through R&D)” will showcase programs and technologies in support of the government’s whole-of-nation approach to recovery from the pandemic.
Since 2015, the NRDC encouraged coordination and collaboration among industry members, academic institutions, and research and development institutions (RDIs).

DAVAO DEL SUR – With the aim of promoting the safety and quality of food products as well as to help small food processors earn the trust of consumers, the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST-XI), through its Provincial Science and Technology Center in Davao Del Sur (PSTC DS), conducted a Good Manufacturing Process (GMP) Awareness Seminar for Sta. Cruz Seaweed Processors at Lawis Bato, Sta. Cruz Davao del Sur last 29 September 2021.
This training seminar, geared at capacitating beneficiaries of practical technologies, was made possible with the collaboration of the Provincial Governor’s Office-Public Employment Service Office (PGO-PESO).

DAVAO ORIENTAL– The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST-XI) continues to lead the way in battling the adverse effects of climate change and strengthening the disaster preparedness efforts of the people in Davao Region by relying on the power of science, technology, and innovation.
Through its Provincial Science and Technology Center in Davao Oriental (PSTC DO), DOST-XI successfully conducted the training on Breadfruit Propagation and Seedling Distribution held last 7 October 2021 at the Municipal Hall, Tarragona, Davao Oriental.

National Scientist Ramon C. Barba, 82, passes away

Dr. Ramon C. Barba, the scientist behind the year-round availability of fresh mangoes, passed away on 10 October 2021 at the age of 82.
Dr. Barba was known for his distinguished achievements in the field of plant physiology, focusing on induction of flowering of mango and on micropropagation of important crop species that have earned him national and international accolades. By virtue of Malacañang Proclamation No. 783 signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III on 6 June 2014, Dr. Ramon C. Barba was conferred the Order of National Scientist, the highest recognition given by the President of the Republic of the Philippines to a Filipino man or woman of science in the Philippines who has made significant contributions in one of the different fields of science and technology. This award was created under Presidential Decree No. 1003-A on 16 December 1976.
