The thrust for community resilience and preparedness continues for the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) as the agency unveils the PHIVOLCS Mindanao Cluster Monitoring Center for Earthquake and Tsunami (PMCMCET) last 24 September 2021 via a virtual presser.
A first in the region, DOST Undersecretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. said that the center is set to further increase the protection capabilities of the Philippine Seismic Network (PSN) in monitoring and warning in Mindanao.

DOST-SEI’s filmmaking competition shows harmony in science and the arts

The Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute’s (DOST-SEI) pioneering science filmmaking competition, Indie-Siyensya, is now on its 5th run bannering the theme “The Scientist in Me.”
The contest is open to all Filipinos who may join as individuals or in groups. There are two categories: the “Youth Category” for high school, tertiary school and out-of-school youth aged 13-20, and the “Open category” for college students, teachers, amateur filmmakers, and even science professionals.

Davao Occidental’s first NRCP Associate Member pursues more R&D initiatives

True to his calling as a researcher and to expand his networks and linkage, John Paul Pacyao saw it right to apply and was approved as the newest associate member of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-NRCP) under Division V-Biological Science.
After attending the DOST-NRCP Caravan held last 28 June 2021, Pacyao challenged himself to become a member of the Council. “Why not try?” says Pacyao. “We must go beyond our limits and area of jurisdiction to improve and strengthen our RDE here in Davao Occidental. If we limit ourselves to only deem on our comfort zone, we hamper development,” added Pacyao.

Davao earthquake and tsunami monitoring facility strengthens PH disaster preparedness efforts

The Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) inaugurated the PHIVOLCS Mindanao Cluster Monitoring Center for Earthquake and Tsunami (PMCMCET) facility on 24 September 2021 to provide capable nationwide earthquake and tsunami monitoring that would ensure continuity of operations when the main office located in Quezon City failed to function immediately after an emergency or disruption.
