Officials and experts from the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) gave the public the assurance on the availability of several science-based interventions that would properly manage our nuclear waste.
In line with the 2022 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration, the DOST-PNRI conducted a webinar titled: Safe Ba Tayo? How Effective Radiation Protection and Radioactive Waste Management Ensure Safety of Filipinos on November 25 via Facebook Live and Zoom.
"The truth is nuclear is a perceived and imagined problem with an easy solution. There is funding, there is technology, there is scientific evidence. The only thing that prevents the proper disposal of nuclear waste is public acceptance, said Engr. Ronald Piquero, senior science research specialist from DOST-PNRI.

‘Controller Operated Battle Ready Armament’ towards a self-reliant PH defense
To improve the firepower capability of armored vehicles of the Philippine Army, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) signed on 23 November 2022 a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Army (PH Army) and the Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines (MRSP) in a ceremony held at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.

This is for the Project COBRA, which stands for Controller Operated Battle Ready Armament, that aims to design and integrate a caliber 0.50 remote-controlled weapon station (RCWS) to help address the pressing problems of the Philippine Army such as high dependency on acquisition of imported military equipment and armaments, slow and delayed delivery of technology and support, gun operator of armored personnel carriers or APCs being at the direct line of fire, and long overdue modernization of military assets to adapt to changes to national security and sovereignty needs.

World Robot Olympiad Germany 2022 is the largest international event with 372 teams from 73 countries. WRO is an annual science and technology event and competition that showcase the brilliance of students from all over the world through Robotics.
After 3 years of virtual competition, the Philippine Robotics National Team participated once again in a physical World Robot Olympiad Germany 2022 held last November 14- 21, 2022 in Dortmund, Germany. FELTA Multi-Media Inc. President/ CEO Mylene Abiva is the National Organizer for the Philippine Robotics National Team.

DOST-affiliated PJS authors garner International Publication Award at the annual science week celebration

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has recently conferred the International Publication Award to researchers from its component agencies and offices whose articles were published in reputed journals, among which is the Philippine Journal of Science (PJS).
The PJS is the oldest peer-reviewed scientific journal in the Philippines with its first issue published in 1906. It is published bimonthly under the management of the Science and Technology Information Institute of the DOST.
Overall, there were 22 award-winning PJS articles co-authored by DOST-affiliated researchers. These include nine by those from the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI); five from the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI); four from the Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI); and one each from the Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI), and the Bicol and Davao Regional Offices (RO5 and RO11).
